Arnie Egeland Scholarship
The Arnie Egeland Scholarship was established by Sharon (Wirtz) Egeland to honor the memory of her beloved husband Arnold “Arnie” V. Egeland who passed away in 2021.
Arnie was born on April 16, 1944, near Randall, Iowa, to Ole Helmer and Violet (Tjelmeland) Egeland. He attended school in Randall and graduated from Randall High School in 1962, and then attended Ellsworth Community College.
Arnie met Sharon Wirtz, on June 9, 1963, on the Boone Saddle Club Annual Trail Ride and they united in marriage three years later. They made their home on a farm north of Boone. Though farming was Arnie’s constant, he also worked in the buildings and grounds division at the DMACC Boone Campus for fifteen years.
Arnie was a member and past president of the Boone Saddle Club, Iowa Draft Pony Hitch Association, West Central Region Cockshutt Club, American Shetland Pony Club and was an auctioneer. Arnie loved talking about farming, horses and ponies.
It is the hope of the family that this scholarship supports a student that also shares Arnie’s love of the outdoors and agricultural.
