Dorothy Wyant Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Dorothy Dippold Wyant, who passed away peacefully Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the age of 92 at Mill Pond Retirement Community in Ankeny. Dorothy was born September 2, 1918 on a farm west of Ankeny. She attended county school and graduated from Ankeny High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Iowa State University. She taught at Stuart, Iowa for two years, and married Arthur Donald Wyant on June 18, 1944 at Little Brown Church in Vale. She enjoyed traveling with Don, who was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission. Later, after Don retired, Dorothy was a substitute teacher in the Ankeny Schools. Her mother died when Dorothy was 14 years old, and she had a lot of responsibilities while growing up. Dorothy was involved in many political and civic affairs. She was a member of P.E.O, Ankeny Federated Women’s Club, Unity Club, Penguins Swim Group at the YMCA, Iowa State Alumni Association, Ankeny Historical Society, and Ankeny United Church of Christ. All phases of education were very important to her and she loved to travel, read, and to be with her family and friends. Dorothy was an avid fan of Ankeny High and Iowa State athletics events.
