Harold and Nadine Belken Scholarship
Harold was a retired installation technician from Northwestern Bell Telephone where he had been past President of the C.W.A.. Harold always felt it was his civic duty to give back to the community and was proud to serve on many boards and committees, including the Des Moines City Council and Board of Adjustments, IAACT and Board of Directors for DMACC. Nadine, Harold’s wife, had a full and happy life. She worked 10 years at Meredith Publishing, volunteered 20 years at the Pioneer Columbus Senior Center, and started the 1st seniors swim team at the YMCA. She was a precinct worker for many years, traveled extensively with Harold as well as the Friendship Force of Iowa. She lived in her home on the south side of Des Moines for over 60 years. She loved to drive her little red convertible around town right up till she went into the hospital. The scholarship was established by the families of both Harold and Nadine in their memory.
