James & Freda Collison Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was first established in memory of Freda Collison by her husband, James. After James’ death at the age of 93 on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, the scholarship was renamed in honor of both James and Freda.

James was born on May 16, 1918 at Carroll, Iowa, James A. was the son of Fred and Gail (Guilford) Collison. He spent his lifetime in the Carroll Community and attended St. Joseph Grade School, later graduating from Carroll High School in 1936. Jim served during World War II in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. On October 4, 1948 he married Freda Tigges at St. Mary’s Church in Willey. Following their marriage they made their home in Carroll and farmed the family farm west of Carroll, retiring in 1986. Jim loved farming, playing cribbage, reading, listening to music, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a great supporter of the Carroll Tigers and Kuemper Knights Athletics and also served on numerous committees at Kuemper Catholic Schools. Jim was a member of the Carroll County Historical Society, Foster Grandparent Program/RSVP, Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7, and Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll.
