Janet Laughead Memorial Scholarship
Janet Laughead, known lovingly as “Tutu”, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born in Babylon, New York in 1922 and enjoyed a childhood growing up in the southeastern US. As an adult she moved to the midwest and raised her family. At the age of fifty Janet pursued a lifelong dream and began school to become a Registered Nurse. She began her nursing career at Broadlawns, and then proceeded to become a civilian psychiatric nurse for the United States Army. This allowed her to live and work in Hawaii and Germany. Janet was passionate about politics, history, and religion. She loved playing cards, reading mysteries, listening to music, writing (especially poetry), all things nautical, and the color blue. She enjoyed traveling the world and eating fine foods, but she was happiest at home, visiting with good friends and sharing a Hershey’s bar (with almonds, of course!) She treasured butterflies, and in them she found love, joy, comfort, and memories of loved ones who have passed.
