John Robert Vestal Criminal Justice Scholarship
This scholarship was created in memory of John Robert Vestal by his family and loved ones.
John loved all things related to the law enforcement community. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines, IA in 1993 and then attended DMACC where he earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice.
John began his career as a security officer at Drake University, moving on to being a dispatcher for WestCom and then a dispatcher for the Polk County Sheriff’s Department. He was a reserve office with the Urbandale Police Department and a member of the National Academy of Emergency Dispatchers. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed racing.
John’s family felt it only fitting that a memorial scholarship be set up in his name at DMACC so that other young people interested in law enforcement might receive needed financial assistance.
