Lisa P. Brumback Memorial Mathematical Sciences Scholarship
The Lisa P. Brumback Memorial Mathematical Sciences Scholarship was established in heartfelt remembrance by family and friends following her sudden passing on July 6, 2025. Lisa was a teacher long before she ever stepped into a classroom. She had a deep love of knowledge, seeing education as a way of life rather than merely an assignment to complete.
As a devoted DMACC employee, Lisa poured that same passion into her work every day. She could reliably be found with a Diet Coke on her desk in the Academic Achievement Center on the Ankeny Campus, ready to greet students with her signature blend of humor, kindness, and unwavering encouragement. For more than 20 years, she taught and tutored math—meeting students where they were, celebrating the aced tests, and helping them believe in their ability to succeed. She had an extraordinary way of making people feel seen, capable, and supported, whether they were struggling through an algebra problem or navigating the challenges of college life.
Lisa’s legacy will live on through the countless young people she advised, uplifted, and believed in, especially those who doubted themselves. She will be forever cherished by her fellow teachers, co-workers, and the students she wholeheartedly supported both in and outside of academics. Her memory remains a guiding light – a reminder of the profound impact that one dedicated, compassionate educator can have on an entire community. This scholarship stands not only as a tribute to her professional influence, but also as a heartfelt memorial to the instructor, mother, colleague, wife, and friend who gave so much of herself to others.
