Lois Dell Child Development Endowed Scholarship and Lois Dell Memorial Zonta Child Development Scholarship.
These scholarships were established in memory of Lois Dell, who founded and directed “The Farmer in the Dell” preschool on Grand Avenue in Des Moines. She wanted to help prepare future early childhood education teachers with their education at DMACC to help maintain high standards of early childhood education programs at a time when there were few in the community or state. Lois was a pioneer as one of the first directors of one of the first preschools in Des Moines, and very well respected in her field. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, who helped establish the endowed scholarship at DMACC. The funds for the first scholarship were made possible by a gift from Lois through the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Des Moines branch. The second scholarship was made possible through a donation in Lois’ honor by the Zonta Club of Des Moines.
