Michael J. Miller/Baker Group Scholarship
Mike Miller was an automation technology pioneer. He had the gift of problem solving with his finger on the pulse of technology. Not only did Mike identify new technology, he was also an early adopter of these new ideas, approaches, and devices. The knowledge he gained with every discovery established the new platform of learning to find the next great opportunity. That problem solving skill also helped him identify new applications for existing proven technology.
Mike’s pioneering spirit included being a self-taught, highly skilled Automation programmer. Many times, the discovery was a new programming approach that reduced the amount of code or improved the reliability of the control sequence.
Mike did this with a heart for people and making people’s lives better. He was always happiest when he could help other people by sharing his discoveries.
Perhaps Mike’s greatest talent was being a great teacher. This is where his heart for people intersected his ability to apply technology. Always willing to give of himself and his time, he was an ideal teacher for young Technicians entering the Automation field. He was quick to share his latest discovery, help others see the technology potential, and help others reach their career potential. He taught Baker Group Technicians for over 30 years, plus he was active in an international peer group of Automation Technicians, InsideIQ. Both locally and internationally, Mike was known for his leading-edge technology applications and willingness to share his knowledge to benefit others.
This is Mike’s professional legacy. Early adopter with a vision for applications, skilled programmer, and a teacher to all that sought his insight. This scholarship is intended to help the next generation of “Mike Millers” feed their curiosity and develop their knowledge so that they may teach and inspire Automation Technicians of the future.
