The Consortium Scholarship (also known as Joy Corning Consortium Scholarship)

The Consortium Scholarship (also known as Joy Corning Consortium Scholarship)

The Consortium supports, develops and promotes women leaders through education, mentoring and networking for personal and professional growth. The Club is comprised of women in positions of responsibility, influence, and/or leadership from diverse areas of the community. The Consortium was founded in 1978 and a few years later, about 1990, began the tradition of awarding scholarships to DMACC students. In 2010, the scholarship was formalized with DMACC and became a regular commitment of the Consortium to help women who are nontraditional- aged students grow and become leaders and professionals in our community.

In 2017 the scholarship was re-named in memory and honor of Joy Corning (1932-2017), a long-time member of the Consortium. Joy Corning was a champion of women’s rights. She led campaigns to celebrate diversity, promote women’s issues, support tolerance and stop violence against women. Joy Corning’s life was a model of class and grace, kindness and cooperation, service and civility. We hope The Consortium scholarship applicants join the members of Consortium in continuing to model those qualities in Joy’s honor.
